Bengaluru’s Billionaire Barber Arrives in a Rolls Royce
The task of cutting hair has always been a humble profession, so when barber G. Ramesh Babu arrives at his salon driving a 3.1 crore rupee Rolls Royce Ghost, people notice. Like a Bollywood movie fairy tale, Ramesh Babu has been able to work his way from a lowly barbershop to become the owner of a well regarded car rental business. Although he only charges 65 rupee for a hair cut, renting cars has turned Ramesh Babu into a billionaire barber.
With high-ranking politicians for clients, as well as Bollywood actors like Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, many are surprised that Ramesh Babu is still cutting hair. As he explains though, even with financial success, he wants to remain connected to his humble beginnings. Growing up, his father owned a barber shop. Tragically, he died in 1989, when Ramesh Babu was only 7 years old. The shop became the only source of income for the family.
While working there, he dreamed of buying his own car. Eventually he was able to purchase a Maruti Omni, which he began renting out to make extra money. Although he started with one car, Ramesh Babu has been able to grow his business, and now owns over 200 luxury cars. Currently, the lowest daily rent he offers is 1,000 rupee, and his highest daily rent is close to 50,000 rupee. Even with all of his success, Ramesh Babu still teaches his children how to cut hair at his shop called Inner Space in Bengaluru.
