One may use apple iphone or simple nokia phone etc . This media has made everyone crazy whether it be children below 10, teenagers or adults. When one gets mobile in his hands then first step will be to login to mail account, go to play store and download social networking sites.

There are countless number of social sites available to users such as using Face book, WhatsAPP, Qzone, Instagram,Twitter,Skype,We chat,Tumbler and so on .By using these sites one gets connected with relatives as well as friends. One can share photos, tag friends and can get up-to-date information.

According Pew Research Center, Today around seven-in-ten Americans use social media to connect with one another, engage with news content, share information and entertain them. Explore the patterns and trends shaping the social media landscape over the past decade below. In 2005, just 5% of American adults used at least one of these platforms.

By 2011 that share had risen to half of all Americans, and today 69% of the public uses some type of social media. As more Americans have adopted social media, the social media user base has also grown more representative of the broader population. Young adults were among the earliest social media adopters and continue to use these sites at high levels, but usage by older adults has increased in recent years.

Among different social networking sites, Facebook is the most-widely used of the major social media platforms, and its user base is most broadly representative of the population as a whole. Smaller shares of Americans use sites such as Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and LinkedIn.

According to avocadosocial.com,  Facebook continues to take the lead with an influx of 1.5 billion monthly active users worldwide. The UK makes up 31 million of those users, with 60% of the population having a Facebook account. The most popular age group is 25-34 (26% of users) but Facebook is a great platform to speak to a mass market of ages and locations.

Much younger audiences may be looking elsewhere at private messaging apps such as WhatsApp, WeChat, Facebook Messenger and Viber, but there are still 2.5 million 13-17 year olds using Facebook.

India now has 462 million active internet users (out of a global total of 3.63 billion)

Internet usage is growing in India at a rate of 90 percent while the global average is just 19 percent

India’s web users have 153 million active social media accounts (from a global tally of 2.43 billion)

Whereas in India has 1.01 billion mobile connections. It has 153 million social media users, of which 130 million are on mobile. India’s active social media users are up by 23 percent since March 2015, compared to 26 percent global rise.

Now days these social platforms are only used for self promotion purpose. Brands are promoting themselves in order to get in forefront. They are making strategies, using aggressive tag lines, logos that push the buyer to go for their products or services. for Example:- eatables coupons via sites and asks users to download their applications and get free home delivery, discounts and others, many two-four wheelers are using celebrities to promote their products.

Not only this, common man is busy in self- promoting. He is promoting himself by posting his pictures, making videos under various social platforms.

If one does for good cause then posts it on social media just to get likes and comments. Is it worth?

Why everyone is wasting time on this things. Will it adds to nation’s property? Is it for nation’s well being?

I think using social media for self promotion is not worth. Making masses up to date with latest information is good but doing for self promotion isn’t worth.

Recently Prime Minister of India said:

DON’T USE SOCIAL MEDIA FOR SELF PROMOTION OR SPEND TOO MUCH ONLINE. IF THE SOCIAL MEDIA IS USED FOR ANNOUNCING THE DATE FOR THE ANTI-POLIO VACCINATION THEN IT’S VERY GOOD. BUT GIVING TWO DROPS OF POLIO VACCINE AND THEN CIRCULATING THE PHOTO THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA SHOULD NOT BE DONE.

At last if really want to use social media, use it for making masses aware, tell them about national and international days that are celebrated worldwide such as Anti Drugs Day, Heart Day, Health Day, tell them about problems faced by people, tell them about warriors who sacrificed their lives and not using Social Media AS A Tool For Self Promotion Purposes.
