Pilot’s Near-Miss With Ocean In Princess Juliana International Airport, Captured In An Amazing Video :
Princess Juliana International Airport which is also known as Saint Maarten International Airport is the main airport on the Caribbean island of Saint Martin. The airport is the major tourist attraction as the airport is perhaps best known for very low-altitude flyover landing approaches due to one end of its runway being extremely close to the shore and Maho Beach.
Every day there are numbers of photographs and videos posted by the travelers on social media about the aircraft with few feet away from the shore before landing. There is another video posted by Sebastian Thoma in which a Boeing almost hits the water before going around.
It was a West jet flight 2652 YYZ-SXM with Boeing 737-800 C-GWSV who made two attempts before it landed at the airport. In the video, it can be clearly seen that the Boeing in the first attempt almost hit the surface of the water and instead of landing at the airport, it went back to the air for the second attempt. In the second attempt which was made 45 minutes later, the pilot of the aircraft took the control and landed safely at the airport while maintaining the required altitude from the shore.
While comparing both the attempts, there was a huge difference in an altitude and the speed of the plane. It is amazing to see the planes so close to the shore but pilots are well-trained to land and take-off with such short distances.
